"Present Central Government's policies are completely neglectful of agriculture. The recent budget has meager allotment for agriculture, which is forcing farmers to depend on private lenders at high interest rates. The suicides of farmers is increasing. Farmers are abandoning agriculture due to heavy losses. Data says that Everyday 55 farmers are committing suicide. SInce the beginning of liberalisation policies, 3,20,000 farmers have committed suicides. The status of agricultural labourers is even worse than farmers, on whom they are dependent," said Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing a public meeting during 27th State Conference of AIAWU.
