It's interesting to note that some folks have put a photo with the Vice President Dr. Hamid Ansari not saluting during the National Anthem.
The salute during the National Anthem as per protocol is to be given only by the President of India, as the Presidential Guards are saluting him. The PM & the Defence Minister broke that protocol because of their ignorance, excitement, or inexperience.
The current VP has been to many Republic Day Parades and he maintained protocol and respect. So let’s not drag the VP into an unnecessary controversy. However, it is important that the PM & Def. Min educate themselves to the etiquette and protocol of the Republic Day.
Hamid Ansari served as the Chief Protocol Officer in 1980–85, so he knows it better than many people.
