नई दिल्ली, 30 सिंतंबर 2019. टेक्सास के हैरिस काउंटी के पहले सिख डिप्टी संदीप धालीवाल (Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal) को लोग श्रद्धांजलि दे रहे हैं। धालीवाल को ड्यूटी के दौरान पीछे से सिर में कई गोलियां मारी गईं, जिससे उनकी मौत हो गई। धालीवाल (42) की संदिग्ध अमरीकी आतंकी रॉबर्ट सॉलिस (47) द्वारा शुक्रवार अपरान्ह काउंटी के साइप्रस इलाके में एक ट्रैफिक स्टॉप के दौरान गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी गई। सॉलिस को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया है और हत्या का आरोप लगाया गया है।
धालीवाल काउंटी के पहले सिख डिप्टी थे। वह दस साल पहले फोर्स में शामिल हुए थे और पगड़ी पहनने व दाढ़ी बढ़ाने के लिए हैरिस काउंटी शेरिफ विभाग को राजी करने को लेकर उनकी एक राष्ट्रीय पहचान बन गई थी।
बीबीसी की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, उनकी मौत के एक दिन बाद विभाग के अधिकारियों ने उनके सम्मान में आयोजित शनिवार के कैंडिललाइट सभा की वीडियो व तस्वीरें साझा कीं।
टेक्सास निवासियों (Sikh community in Houston) ने सोशल मीडिया पर उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि दी।
डोनाल्ड ट्रंप के अमरीका का राष्ट्रपति बनने के बाद अमेरिका में सिखों पर नस्लीय हमलों की बाढ़ आ गई है।
