Dear Mr. Mehta,
I recently watched your comments about me in a t.v. panel discussion on Karan Thapar's show 'The Last Word'. You said, among other things, that a strong attack has been launched against the media, and it appears that the insinuation was that the Government had picked me up for this attack. You also said that I am shooting off everywhere, and that I had done a disservice to the media.
Your comments have deeply pained me, and I did not expect them from you.You are a journalist for whom I have always had great respect. While you are entitled to your views, I think journalistic ethics gives a right of rejoinder. I would therefore like to write and get published in your esteemed journal my rejoinder, if you agree. You may tell me the maximum number of words it can be, so that I can write it accordingly
I am taking the liberty of forwarding copy of this email to some other journalists, to which I hope you will have no objection
Regards
Justice Katju
