Women's Status in Vedic Society
In the historical context of India, women enjoyed far greater freedom during the Vedic period than in later times. They had a more substantial role in choosing their mates than what the forms of marriage might suggest. Women participated freely in feasts and dances and joined men in religious sacrifices.
