PRESS STATEMENT

100 farmers of DSIR villages set out on a padayatra (footmarch) demanding their right to pursue their chosen profession

The Secretary of Khedut Samaj-Gujarat, Shri Sagar Rabari, has issued a press statement that:
Around 100 farmers belonging to 22 villages of Dholera taluka, part of the proposed DSIR, today set off on their padayatra amid slogans of “DSIR Authority: Quit Dholera”, “Remove SIR, give us Narmada waters”, “Hold land kacheris, settle the revenue record”. The recent order of the Hon’ble High Court of Gujarat which upheld their right to march peacefully to the Collector’s office seemed to have enthused them afresh. The yatris set off at around 10.15 a.m. from village Sandhida. The first day will end this evening at village Sarasla, where the yatris will halt for the night. The government had ensured enough police presence and they remained with the yatris throughout the walk.
