Bara (Allahabad) 31 May. Hundreds of peasants assembled in Bara tehsil to demanding distribution of land pattas of Gram Sabha and river bed lands to the poor for livelihood and to solve rural unemployment and rural migration problem, deep excavation of all ponds upto 15 feet and recharging them with rain water to ensure water harvesting and preventing drought, raising MNREGS wages to Rs 500 per day, waiving of KCC loans with grant of new KCC loans immediately, developing villages to guarantee employment in rural areas with ban on giving village and farm land to companies.
They demanded immediate stopping of the Bara Thermal Power Plant which is lifting crores of litres of Jamuna water and drying up the river, adding to water shortage for irrigation and in handpumps.
AIKMS submitted a detailed list of 15 ponds in as many villages which have not been dug to the SDM.and which are under control of powerful landlords.
They demanded freedom to do sand and gravel mining and grant of permits to boatmen and ban on operation of sand mine machines, stone crushers and extraction of illegal taxes which are undermining employment for the poor and looting their income.
They also raised the issue of reduction in food grain allottment in PDS under the Food Security Act. They demanded that ration be dispersed by Ration cards and each family be given 50 kg food grian, 3 kg oil, 5 kg pulses and 3 kg sugar per month.
AIKMS has demanded declaration of drought in all blocks with 10% rainfall shortage.
