New Delhi, 04: Approval to erect a grand memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji in the Arabian Sea has been given by the Ministry of Environment, informed the Union Environment Minister, Prakash Javadekar in a press conference here today.

A joint press conference was addressed by Prakash Javadekar and Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister, Eknath Khadse at Maharashtra Sadan. The union minister informed on various pending issues concerning the State.

Informing on erection of the grand memorial of Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Arabian Sea, Shri Javadekar informed that the Environment Ministry had directed to address some vital concerns, which had duly complied by the State Government and the approval for memorial was sought as per the revised proposal. This approval has now clear set the way for erecting the memorial in the Arabian Sea and a Notification to this would be issued shortly by the concerned department, informed Javadekar.

Answering to one of the questions, Shri Javadekar said that the conduct of Bullock-Cart races is an age-old tradition of the state. The conduct of bullock-cart races and all performances of bulls have been a regular feature as an entertainment sport in Maharashtra. However, in order that this sport should not subject it to all forms of torture, fear, pain and suffering endangering the lives of animals, granting concurrence to this sport is under Central Government’s consideration, said Javadekar. Decisions to avoid torture meted out to snakes on ‘Nag Panchami’ festival would be taken soon, informed the union minister.

Members of Parliament Dr. Subhash Bhamre, Raksha Khadse, Sanjay Kaka Patil and A.T.Nana Patil were also present in this conference.


Khadse Urges Centre to Provide Rs 3924 Crores Drought-Relief Assistance
A proposal of granting special assistance of Rs 3924 Crores to the drought-affected areas of Maharashtra was submitted to the Centre, informed Revenue Minister, Eknath Khadse here today. Government of India’s special review team would visit the drought-affected regions of the State from December 5. Shri Khadse said that the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions have been affected most and the state government has started with a slew of measures to curb this situation. A meeting to grant approval for this, was held with Union Agriculture Minister, Radha Mohan Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, said Khadse.
