New Delhi. All India Kisan Sabha-AIKS organised Com Harkishan Singh Surjeet’s Birth Centenary memorial meeting at their office at 36 Canning Lane today. Com Prakash Karat was the main speaker. Other speakers were Com SR Pillai, Com Hannan Mollah, Com Amra Ram, Com NK Shukla, Com Vijoo Krishnan
Com Prakash spoke about Com Surjeet’s contribution in giving sharper direction to Kisan Sabha. He also spoke how Com Surjeet stressed on the struggle against communalism.
Com SR Pillai said Com Surjeet made important contribution to building agrarian movement in the country. His books on the agrarian movement are a guide to the movement in the country.
Com Hannan Mollah said the agrarian contribution in GDP is coming down, in spite of the immense agrarian contribution in employment. Com Surjeet, he said, taught us how to mobilise the rural poor against the oppressors. He said that Com Surjeet stressed on kisan-mazdoor unity, and added that Com Surjeet fought against communalism and highlighted his role in fighting the Khalistani movement.
