New Delhi. Support and protest is on-going on Delhi University’s Four Year Under-Graduate Programme (FYUP). Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit is supporting the four years undergraduate programme while Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) is condemning Sheila’s stand.

Dr. Harish Khanna, vice president, Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) said, “It is sad and disheartening to know the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is supporting the four years undergraduate programme at Delhi university. The FYUP is not favourable to the students from the weaker sections and minorities as it will cause a financial Burdon on them as the result of the extra one year in the FYUP. The FYUP does not ensure job placements. The Chief Minister's support to such a course is a sign of apathy towards the students of the weaker sections. If the Chief Minister is convinced about the merit of the FYUP then it should have been implemented in the universities under the Delhi govt. as well. Any change in the higher education policy should first be debated by the MHRD and the parliament since the four years undergraduate programme revises 10+2+3 structure accepted nationally.”

Khanna said that the congress will have to pay a price for this anti-people policy in the coming elections in Delhi by the poor people if implemented.
