CPI condemns the legalizing of free flow of corporate funding to political parties
New Delhi, March 20. The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) issued the following statement to the press severely condemning the legalizing of free flow of corporate funding to political parties:
The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India severely condemns the Narendra Modi government’s approval to free flow of corporate money into the coffers of political parties without any cap by making necessary amendments to the Finance Bill, 2017. Through the amendment, the government has also allowed the companies to keep the names of the recipient political parties confidential and to donate crores of rupees to parties.
No doubt, BJP will be the biggest beneficiary of the amendment. Even foreign companies can donate huge funds to parties and this will act as a severe threat to our national security.
However the names of the recipient parties will be known to the government.
The Modi government and the RSS always speak of transparency in dealings and posed as the champions of fighting against black money.
The cat is out of the bag and none other than Union finance minister himself, who till the other day has been insisting on revealing the names of all those who contribute more than Rs 2,000 to a political party, has got the amendment passed in the Lok Sabha.
Now that the Upper House does not have powers to reject the Money Bill, it becomes law automatically.
The party also notes with grave concern the reckless move of the government which is being given retrospective effect.
The Modi government which has otherwise failed in all aspects of governance is resorting to dubious means to grab more and more power. As seen in Uttar Pradesh during the elections, the BJP government will readily flout any accepted norm and rule to cater to their interest.
The party demands the Union government to roll back the amendment, keeping in view the future of the country.
