CPI (ML) condemns government apathy towards on-going hunger strike on People’s Rights
New Delhi, 13 February, 2014. The CPI (ML) expressed support for the on-going hunger strike by Akhilendra Pratap Singh and the All India People’s Front (AIPF) on a range of people’s concerns.
CPI(ML) Politburo member, Kavita Krishnan said, “The hunger strike raises various pressing issues. In the on-going tussle between the Centre and the Delhi Government over the Janlokpal, a substantive issue is getting drowned out: namely the question of bringing corporates and NGOs within the ambit of the anti-corruption ombudsman. Though corporate corruption is at the root of large scale scams, it seems apparent that most parties concerned, barring the Left parties, are united in their will to keep the corporates out of the ambit of the Lokpal.”
“Other pressing issues include the right to dignified and secure work as a fundamental right, an end to the profiling and witch-hunt of minority youth, and the rights and dignity of women”, added Kavita.
The hunger strike has been on-going since 7 February, and yet the Government, and Parliament have refused to engage with the protestors or respond to the demands raised. CPI(ML) leader condemned this apathy, and demand that the demands, which have the backing of India’s toiling people and people’s movements, be addressed without delay.
