DU’s Law Faculty’s Students sit again on indefinite hunger strike due to mass failure this time and relaxation in promotion
New Delhi; September 15, 2016
Faculty of Law, Delhi University has seen mass failure this time, 45% of first year students failed in at least one subject and students who scored first division last year have scored less marks this year and are concerned too. Around 350 students have faced year back this time. So, in their support, students of law faculty have decided to protest against such mass failure and unfair checking. All three centers of law faculty i.e. CLC, LC 1 and LC 2 are united in this matter.
Student of Faculty of Law demands are:-
Relaxation in promotion.
Restoration of supplementary exams.
Free re evaluation scheme must be implemented.
Improvement: Best of two papers.
They have been talking to authority since August unfortunately they haven't got any assurance.
On 29 & 30 Aug they met Prof. SC Raina (Dean), then they met their New Dean Prof. Ved kumari on 2nd September. On 5th they organised a protest March from Dean office to V. C office gate no 4. And Memorandum was submitted to Dean Faculty of Law, DSW, DUTA, and VC office. And then again, on 6th they organised the same protest March from Dean office to V. C office gate no 4. Submitted again their amended memorandum with intimation to Relay Hunger strike. And they sat on the same on 7th September from 11 am to 5 pm, in between meeting with Prof Kamla Sankaran (acting Dean). She did not give any written as well as oral assurance.
On 8th they again met Prof Ved Kumari around 3 pm with 15 students from all the three centres, on the same day they went again at around 8pm and meeting continued for around 2 & half hours but she again denied to give any written assurance. As a result, they were bound to sit on indefinite hunger strike. Their strike began on 14.9.16 from 2 PM on words
They went on indefinite hunger strike from 2 PM onwards since 14-09-2016; they also did Candle March Protest from Dean's office to V. C office at around 6 pm on 14-09-2016.
