Programme to be taken : Plantation of many indigenous trees and plants in memory of Dr. Viniyan at “ Dr. Viniyan Upvan” by thousands of women
Dr. Viniyan was a great revolutionary who fought all his life against the eminent domain, feudal system and people’s control over natural resources. He was a founder member of National Forum of Forest People and Forest Worker, Bharat Jan Andolan and was also associated with Jay Prakash movement of “ Sapt kranti” in 70’s. He also led a foot march against the fundamentalism and communal atmosphere that was created after the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 from Jehanabad, Bihar to Ayodhya UP. This foot march was over a month in which large number of adivasi, dalit, progressive forces and other poor people participated. Though he was branded as hard core “naxalite” by the administration but all his life he propagated democratic values in the people’s struggle and was a firm believer that only a democratic struggle can bring fundamental change in age old feudal, patriarchal and exploitative character of state. Hence he worked in very difficult areas of Bihar to build up people’s democratic organization and was very much successful in his mission. One such difficult area that he choose was Kaimur region of Bihar, that is still one of the most difficult forest area where the struggle is going on under the banner of “Kaimur Mukti Morcha” and “Jan Mukti Andolan”. He was also instrumental in waging a long struggle for the legislation of Forest rights in the country. It was quite unfortunate that he passed away just four months before the “ Forest Rights Act” was enacted in Parliament in 2006. He left all of us on 18th August 2006, leaving a great legacy of his strong thoughts of people’s struggle to change their situation through democratic struggle and people power. At present the forest rights movement is very strong in entire Kaimur region of Bihar, UP and Jharkhand where the forest resource governance has been initiated by the adivasis of this region in the leadership of women. In order keep the revolutionary thinking of Dr. Viniyan alive, the members of Kaimur region are organizing a day long programme on the “Forest Resource Governance” on 18 August 2013 to pay tribute to the great leader of this area.
All are cordially invited
