Two important events for those whose conscience is calling them to act:
(1) a massive RALLY against Land Acquisition Ordinance from Sainik Bazaar to Albert Ekka chowk (Ranchi) on January 21st starting at 1 pm
(2) an open meeting of concerned citizens at Bagaicha, Namkum, Ranchi, on January 24th starting at 11 am in view of inaugurating a broad secular democratic People’s Forum to take on current issues
Friends / Comrades,
these above decisions were taken during our meeting on January 3rd at Bagaicha. We all agreed immediate effective action is called for to counteract the undemocratic steps present govt is taking. Some of the crucial issues on which we need to act are:
(1) the Land Acquisition Ordinance, 2014, which practically repeals the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, which has some safeguards in the interest of small farmers, Adivasis, such as Social Impact Assessment, consent of land-owners to part with their land etc. All that is done away with in the new Land Ordinance. Unfortunately most to-be-affected people are kept in darkness about the content & implications of this Ordinance. Hence we need to rise up to the occasion and take this information to the people in the villages so that they will express their protests in their own localities and renew their resolve not to surrender their land to the govt which wants to give it to industrialists.
(2) The Ordinance to re-allocate coal-blocks through auction is again another assault on the mostly Adivasi communities. When the SC has held that all these allocations as invalid, the present govt is trying to open a back-door entry to these very illegal mining cos to bid in the auction and become legal again. This is to be condemned and stopped by all means.
This action calls for a united struggle to nullify govt’s unjust action. Come let us come together, give a shape to our common effort, plan our strategies of action.
