Karnataka Anganwadi Workers agitation has been withdrawn after CM's firm assurances
Bangalore. Thousands of Karnataka Anganwadi Workers sit-in on the road leading to Vidhan Sabha at Bangalore has been withdrawn after CM's firm assurance to address demands on April 10th. He had earlier invited a delegation consisting of Anganawadi Union affiliated to CITU and AITUC, and CPI(M) Secretary Com. G V Sreeramareddy, He explained his genuine constraint of not being able to announce any measures due to Code of Conduct for two Bye Elections. He offered to advance the meeting from April 19th to April 9th, the day after Bye Elections.
According to a press release on CM's firm assurances agitation has been withdrawn temporarily. However Anganwadi Leaders warned that if the demands are not met, next struggle will be in front of CM's residence.
Earlier after two days of sit-in agitation and increasing support building up, Government tried to disrupt it by talking to some smaller unions not participating in agitation. Government announced on the third day that unions (which have not even participated n the agitation) have 'withdrawn' the struggle ! However this did not matter, both number of agitators on street and support from prominent writers, intellectuals, artists swelled. many of them even visited the agitation site - Salumarada Thimmakka (an grassroots environmentalist) and Chethan (a popular progressive actor) among them. On the fourth day CM invited the agitating workers leaders delegation.
After the withdrawal of the agitation, criminal cases have been booked on Angawadi Union leaders, under IPC Sections 143, 149, 188 and 341.
