‘Life Threat’ and ‘Abuse’ Received On Twitter Account for writing on Beef
New Delhi. A life threat and abuse given to Ravi Nitesh, a human rights activist, founder of Mission Bhartiyam, on his twitter account for writing on beef politics.
Ravi Nitesh had written a joke on the issue of Sangeet Som's involvement in opening slaughter house. Also, he was regularly writing to oppose rising right wing supporters.
This tweet came from a person who keeps his display picture of Amit Shah. This tweet included abuses and even life threat in case Ravi Nitesh will not stop tweeting. This thread reads ‘you will be butchered in the same slaughter area’.
With the rising pattern of right wingers in society as well as in social media, it seems that there is a well planned strategy of these hate mongers to spread hatred in society and to disintegrate society through all possible ways including instigating violence , torture and threats.
We have already seen that how few social workers, leftists, intellectuals have been attacked and even murdered in recent time by these people. On the other hand, we see that how their political leaders have their history of being involved in hate speeches and encouraging riots and communal violence. Ravi Nitesh, who works and writes for peace and human rights with his focus on human rights issues of Kashmir, North East and other contemporary incidents. He has received abuses from extremists and religious fundamentalists earlier also, but this time, abuse is also mixed with direct threat of life.
In the recent debate of Beef, it is very unfortunate to see that how they are shifting people's focus on this issue and making it controversial by associating it with the religion. But it is becoming more dangerous to see that how these people are becoming involve in violence propagation and attacking upon all those who talk about liberty, freedom and rationality.
After advise of concerned friends on twitter, Ravi Nitesh has also filed a complaint with cyber cell of Delhi Police and copied the complaint to Commissioner of Police, Delhi for action.
Subject: Complaint Against ‘Life Threat’ and ‘Abuse’ Received On Twitter Account
Dear Sir,
Please be informed about the case where a life threat and abuse received to me through a tweet on 8 October 2015 by a twitter user with profile name ‘Shakti Singh’. Profile picture is of Amit Shah, the BJP president and location shows as Maharashtra , India.
As, I am a freelance writer and voluntary works for communal harmony, human rights and peace; I regularly use social media to promote my idea of peace and human rights. As, I believe in constitutional rights and provisions, I do oppose extremists, religious fundamentalists and violence.
In the same line of my tweets on the said evening of 8th October, where I had written few tweets about Beef ban and Beef politics. In response of the same, I received a threat tweet from this user named Shakti Singh, but this tweet does not have any mention of difference of opinion, instead it directly centered on my personal liberty as it was advising me to ‘Keep silence’ , equipped with the ‘life threat’ as it further says ‘you will be butchered in the same slaughter area’. These threats also had abuses.
In view of continuous attacks upon people who are registering their dissent in peaceful manners of writing or through using democratic spaces, this threat is dangerous for me and posses serious weight that can have its implication to stop my voice (coming for secularism, communal harmony and human rights) with use of violence or through taking my life.
In view of this, I appeal you to register my complaint, take cognizance of this matter and take immediate action as per Indian laws.
I also appeal to kindly inform me about the action taken as it may happen to many other such persons who believe in secularism and human rights and who are regularly registering their opinion about the same. It seems that for these persons who are giving threats and attacking people, there is an environment of impunity and therefore actions against them is quite essential.
Screenshots of tweet and profile is attached.
Sincerely
Ravi Nitesh
