New Delhi, 05Oct. Thousands of people joined hands and expressed their great displeasure at the slow pace of investigation on the murder of eminent secular journalist Gauri Lankesh.

The protesters today gathered at the Mandi House in Delhi and march passed to streets of Delhi and finally reached Jantar Mantar where they were addressed by a number of eminent activists who called to join hand and fight against fascist onslaught of Sangh Parivar led Hindutva forces on democracy and dissent. They shouted slogan : Gauri Lankesh Amar Rahe, We want Justice, Down with Manuwad, Brahmanical Patriarchy Down Down, We want Azadi and more. Students of diverse political affiliated groups, train unions predominantly of the left parties, Bahujan organisations, Dalit writers, individual writers, secular activists all joined hand.

Eminent among those who speak were Prashant Bhushan, Teesta Setalvad, Annie Raja, Rajni Tilak and others. There were numerous participants from Karnataka too.

Protest March against Killings of Gauri Lankesh and other rationalist writers and journalists from mandi House to Jantar Mantar in Delhi was a much needed show of solidarity. Great to see so many citizens concerned for freedom, dissent and secularism. We need more such democratic protests and fill the vacuum.

Social activist Vidya Bhushan Rawat said,

“I only wish these protests to be inclusive, diverse and address the whole concern of not only the 'rationalists', 'secularists' and 'humanists' but also address the threats to numerous other Dalit Bahujan Adivasi Ambedkarite philosophers, writers, activists and human rights defenders. The movement has to grow but it will only whe it will be inclusive. Anyway, our solidarity with all the movements aimed to build a secular humanist inclusive society. A broad diversity was visible in this march. I definitely missed Ambedkarite, Bahujan, Adivasi student groups and organisations even when I met a few friends from BAPSA and other Ambedkarite streams here. The march came just one month after Gauri was murdered at her home in Bangalore.”
