Aligarh 23.5.2015: Chief Editor of the Aligarh Movement monthly magazine Dr. Jasim Mohammad has strongly condemned the statement of Markandey Katju wherein he has called Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, founder of the Aligarh Muslim University as a British agent.

In this connection, Jasim Mohammad told that either Markandey Katju lacks knowledge about history of that period or he has deliberately made statement denigrading Sir Syed Ahmad Khan for dividing Indian Society. He said that Sir Syed had exposed wrong British policies towards Indians by authoring Asbab-e-Baghawate Hind which was not only a daring but dangerous act in those days. Dr. Jasim Mohammad said that at the time of second world war Mahatma Gandhi had supported British government. Was Mahatma Gandhi also a British agent?
Dr. Jasim Mohammad said that not only that Markandey Katju has also accused Sir Syed for the partition of country whereas during Sir Syed’s time there was no such concept at all. He pointed out that Markandey Katju did not denigrated only Sir Syed but has hurt feelings of a vast section of Indians who has emotional attachment with Sir Syed and Aligarh Muslim University.
Dr. Jasim Mohammad also said that Markandey Katju also attacked Allam Iqbal a great Urdu poet and joked his master piece poetry Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa. He said that maligning such great Indian personalities is very objectionable.
Dr. Jasim Mohammad has demanded that Markandey Katju should publicly tender apology and withdraw his statement otherwise the Aligarh Movement will launch a nationwide campaign against him. He has appealed to saner elements of Indian society to oppose Markandey Katju and demand apology for him.
