Mirwaiz , Geelani barred from reaching Jamia Masjid , Srinagar
New Delhi, July 29: Hurriyat Conference chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Friday were arrested today by police in Srinagar.

According to facebook post of Makbool Veeray, Editor-in-chief of Sachnews Jammu Kashmir -
“Mirwaiz was arrested as soon he stepped out for Jamia Masjid and was lodged in Police Station Nageen" A spokesman of Hurriyat ( M) told Sachnews Jammu Kashmir adding that it was for third consecutive Friday when Congregational prayers were not allowed in Jamia Masjid Srinagar. “It happened only during Sikh rule that people were barred to offer Friday prayers at Jamia Srinagar on third straight Friday,” he said.

Pertinently, separatist leaders had called for “Jamia Masjid Challo” to protest against the civilian killings at the hands of government forces however the same was foiled by clamping curfew and arresting Mirwaiz and Syed Ali Geelani.
