BHOPAL: January 10, 2017: Hailing the Supreme Court decision totally prohibiting misuse of religion, caste and language many speakers while participating in a seminar stressed the need for several structural change in the mechanism of holding elections.
For example at present the Election Commission consists of bureaucrats only. The need is to make more broadbased organisation. This can be done by including judges as member or chairman of the Election Commission. The persistent efforts are needed to change the mindset of the masses.
Presiding over the seminar L.S. Herdenia national convener of the All India Secular Forum said that the judgment will go a long way in strengthening the foundation of secular edifice of our democratic system.
Among those who participated in the seminar were journalist Rakesh Dixit, Rajendra Sharma, state president of Progressive Writers Association, Pushan Bhattacharya of the Central Trade Union, Roop Singh Chauhan of the All India Trade Union Congress, M.M. Sharma, leader of the Railway Employee, Ram Harsh Patel, leader of BHEL employees. Seminar was conducted by Shailendra Shailly.
Earlier tributes were paid to communist leader A.B. Bardhan on the occasion of his first death anniversary.
