New Delhi. Social activists Teesta Setalwad and Javed Anand have challenged the legalities of Courts allowing "raids" by CBI.
In a joint statement they said, “If the media were a bit more conscientious on issues of the law, Constitution and human rights they would have questioned how the CBI is procuring orders from lower Courts for "raids” when the law clearly lays down that only if there is non-cooperation such a course should be resorted to.”
Teesta & Javed said, “The absence of sensible and in depth coverage and understanding of such issues has worked towards sensationalising these as "events" vilifying the 'subjects/victims" and overall furthering no greater democratic space or understanding.”
They said, “We challenged the legality of the raid by CBI on our home and office within TWO days of the event (The raid took place over 22 hours on July 14-15 2015. We moved the Magistrate Court that had given permission to raid on July 17, 2015). This received no coverage at all.”
