PUBLIC MEETING : 4 PM: 25TH JUNE,2011

Dear friends,

In the wake of JP Movement ‘Emergency’ was imposed on the country during
midnight of 25th/26th June,1975, suspending fundamental rights of the citizens
as enshrined in the constitution. The manner in which JP Movement was conducted,
disparate elements which entered into this movement to take advantage of it
for their vested interests, the nature of authoritarian regime during
emergency, and the democratic and anti-democratic processes which followed
post-emergency, should serve as a great lesson to tackle present situations.
Every year we hold meeting on 25th or 26th June,2011 to consider the current
state of civil liberties and democratic values prevailing in the country. This
25th June,2011 we shall consider the state of democratic processes at present
and of civil liberties, especially ‘right to dissent’ and political
prisoners. Speakers include Sh.Kuldip Nayar, Shri B.G.Verghese, Ms. Nandita
Haksar, Dr. Aparna . Details are as under :
