I know Forbesganj region intimately. The fact that this has happened under Nitish Kumar regime warrants a serious probe by the civil society, not by any Government Appointed Judge or any Committee. I know that a communal riot took place in Patna in January 2010 which was expunged by the media under Nitish's order. I was there that evening when the riots took place. Hundreds of Hindus and Muslims were admitted to the emergency and trauma centre of PMCH with head injuries, including bullet injuries.
Nitish is not what he claims to be. he has ignored severe actions against perpetrators of genetically engineered seeds in Bihar that will destroy the health of Biharies and also destroy small and marginal farmers. As one activist told me after meeting Nitish that he said that "you look into these issues of GMOs"...which basically means that GMO can be a political issue for him but not an issue for adminstrative and penal action. That means that he has sold out to the Monsanto led genetically modified seeds corporations in India. Whether he has been bribed by these firms, I don't know. BUT HE HAS NOT COME CLEAN ON THIS.
So, I'd be wary of Nitish Government, which is high on politics and low on action, confirmed by senior officers of Bihar.
he is definitely better than the Laloo gang, but he does not care for the future of Bihar.
As Chandrashekhar, the midnight PM of India said, "I have climbed the peak of Mount Everest but I can't build a home there!!!" All politicians have limited time, so has Nitish. They have climbed the Everest, reached the peak, now they must come down.
In politics, that "come down" is revealed by the compromises they make with money-bags who work against the interest of the people.
The Forbesganj incidence is equivalent to NANDIGRAM.
May God give him sense and may the Gods protect the people of Bihar.
