This piece by Professor Harbans Mukhia is one of the finest pieces describing the history of historiography in India.

The Hindutva fuelled present Indian rulers are following 'Islamist' rulers of Pakistan and Talibaan of Afghanistan who tried to erase history and also destroyed their own countries.

In India it was done earlier by Shankaracharya (an iconic personality for Hindutva) who led a violent movement to destroy Jain and Buddhistic heritage from India.

Interestingly, supporters of Hindu history remain oblivious of the cardinal fact that the nomenclature Hindu came into vogue only after 'ancient Persians' coined it.
