Why none demanded an attack on Burkina Faso?
In recent attack in Burkina Faso some Canadians were killed. And as expected there was a hue and cry everywhere. Demand that Canada step up bombing Syria in retaliation. There was hardly any newspaper, TV channel, social media where such demand were not seen. The people who demanded an attack on Syria forgot that the attack took place in Burkina Faso and not Syria. So, why none demanded an attack on Burkina Faso?
Who do we blame for the attacks?
If killing of Six Canadians justifies attack on Syria then surely the killings of Canadians in Burkina Faso was justified by the killings of Afghans in Afghanistan, Iraqis in Iraq and Syrians in Syria.
Some of us in the Western world do not want to visit the past. Because we know very well that the past is holding a mirror that reflects our ugly faces.
Bombing has never won a war.
Hitler's blitz did not knock England out of the Second World War. And when economist J.K. Galbraith studied the effect of Allied bombing on Germany, he found the German arms production had peaked in late 1944.
We had the air superiority but the Korean war was draw. The Americans dropped more bombs on Vietnam than they had in Second World War, but they lost the war. The bombing of Cambodia helped Pol Pot to take power.
It's lots of fun to bomb 'enemy' and, of course, it's very profitable for the corporations that make planes and bombs, but the evidences suggest that bombing builds and not break the resistance.
Western governments including Canada have spent billions of dollars on the series of wars that George Bush Sr, began and Jr. continued. But we are long away from peace. Has anyone noticed that hordes of refugees entering Europe from Libya, Iran, Afghanistan and Syria are coming from Three countries that US 'Liberated' from governments that people did not see the need to flee from.
One of the countries was a client' state of US that , in one case at least, , tortured a Canadian on the orders of US 'security' forces.
In India Muslims, Christians and Dalits are provoked for a long time and this is still continued. In fact we find an increase in this provocation. And sometime it is supported by central and state governments. If they are not supported then they are not taken to the task.
The best way of stopping Terrorism is to stop provoking it. Provoking, whether we admit or not, is the root cause.
