New Delhi. The National Women’s Organisations have send a letter to the Prime Minister today regarding 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies. The letter is as follows

9th June 2014

To,

Shri Narendra Modi,

Hon’ble Prime Minister,

Government of India.

Dear Shri Modi ji,

The Address by the President of India to both Houses of Parliament on June 9th 2014 has stated, in clause 19, the Government’s commitment to provide 33% reservation to women in Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies.

We, the undersigned women’s organizations who have been raising our united voice on this demand for over 15 years now welcome this assurance. We would like to point out that women’s representation in the current Lok Sabha- though the highest so far- is still only 11% of the total number of MPs. We hope that your Government will honour this commitment made by the Hon’ ble President, and translate the promise into reality as early as possible.

We urge that the Women’s Bill be placed in the forthcoming session of Parliament and passed without any further delay.
