Statement of All India Secular Forum condemning the violence in Malda and Purnea
New Delhi. All India Secular Forum condemned the violence in Malda (WB) and Purnea (Bihar) indulged in by mob protesting the inflammatory statement of Kamlesh Tiwari.
The Forum condemned politically motivated statement of Kamlesh Tiwari, self styled leader of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha insulting the Prophet of Islam with the intention of outraging the feelings of followers of Prophet and provoking communal violence.
The Forum called upon all the residents of Kaliachak village of Malda District and residents of Purnea Dist. to maintain peace and harmony. The Forum called upon the people not to be misled by rumours, propaganda or provocations of any sort.
The Forum called upon the WB Govt. and Bihar to ensure that peace is restored by deploying adequate security forces and ensure that the police act without fear or favour. The communal elements are active to polarize the communities using every opportunity in wake of the forthcoming WB legislative Assembly elections in particular.
In a joint statement L.S. Hardenia, Prof. Ram Puniyani and Irfan Engineer said, “We demand strictest action permissible under law be taken against Kamlesh Tiwari and all those responsible for the violence that followed the protest rally. Peace must be restored as soon as possible and the guily punished forthwith as per law.”
